After 11 years of success in Palm Harbor, Fla., Jose Del Rio, owner of Stroker’s Billiards decided to take a chance on expansion. Well-known Tampa poolroom Planet 9-Ball closed its doors. Del Rio opened them back up, looking to duplicate his formula for success. So far, so good
Del Rio’s new project was selected just 18 months later to host the 2009 U.S. Amateur Championship. Something only a handful of pool rooms across the country can say they’ve done.
Stroker’s in Tampa features a total of 26 pool tables, mostly 9-footers. In addition, the location offers 18 televisions, including two 120-inch screens, full menu and bar.
Del Rio is proud to have the U.S. Amateur Championship in his poolroom.
“It’s great that we’ve been able to bring this event to Tampa,” said Del Rio
The energetic owner won’t just be keeping things in order this weekend, he’ll also be competing in the championship for the fourth time!
