Robert Hall
Meridanville, AL Sponsor: Steve's Billiards League Operators: Roger & Cynthia Gilbreath It was a late night for four-year U.S. Amateur veteran Robert Hall, who found his
way into the Sweet 16 bracket for the first time in 1999. It was an quick morning on Sunday's final day of competition, as the young enthusiast drew champion Henry Brodt and, after putting up a challenge, fell
to the champ 7-5. Having played with the APA for five years, Hall said he likes coming out for the competition and quality of play. "I've been here before in this position and I knew what to expect, but no matter
how many times you play in this tournament it's still anyone's guess of who will make it to the final rounds," he said. "I have attended a lot of APA events, including the Camel 8-Ball Classic, but what makes the
U.S. Amateur stand out above the rest is the double elimination. It really makes all the difference in taking off the pressure and allowing you to just enjoy the experience.
"Nothing back home in your local League can help you prepare for this tournament," he said during a post-match interview Saturday with his parents listening in. "It's just a matter of learning
from experience and growing with it. It's been a long night and tomorrow will just have to play itself out. Hopefully I'll be a part of the celebration some time soon." |
