Corey Harper didn't necessarily expect to be playing on Sunday in the U.S. Amateur Championship, but he
had no problem with the somewhat unexpected success. Except for drawing Champion Henry Brodt twice, Harper did everything right.
"When you face competition like this you better be on
top of your game," he said. "Henry's a great player and a great champion, so that's a relatively easy pill to swallow."
Harper didn't just slip into Sunday competition, and
didn't rest at all in knocking off an impressive list of opponents. His run at the title included wins over George Roberts (13th), Gary Allen (9th), John Shattell (7th) and
Chandler Drake (5th). Prior to facing the champ, Harper posted a 28-10 record in four Sunday victories.
